North Highlands,
Calif.
–
25
year-old Mike Gallegos of Wheat Ridge, CO will be looking
for his fifth straight oval top-ten this Friday night at
Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, Calif.
Gallegos, a member of Drive for Diversity, will be
piloting the RTD Motorsports, Inc. Chevrolet in the
California Highway Patrol 200. The Independence Day
celebration at the half-mile asphalt oval is a popular
event with both competitors and fans.
In his
last start in the NASCAR Camping World Series West, at
Infineon Raceway, Gallegos suffered a setback in practice
with transmission troubles. After avoiding several
accidents, Gallegos had a top-20 finish changed to a 22nd
place finish after a scoring error.
The
move from the 1.99 mile road course back to oval racing
should be a successful one for RTD Motorsports.
So far
in 2008 on oval tracks, the team has finishes of 22nd,
eighth, ninth, ninth, and fourth. The ninth place finish
at Iowa Speedway included leading 31 laps.
Gallegos comes into the event eighth in the series
standings and just 97 points back from fourth place Austin
Cameron.
Irwindale will be an important race for the team, as they
set forth on a busy summer schedule. After returning to
their
North Highlands,
Calif. shop, the team will then head to Roseberg, Ore. for
another Friday night race.
After a
week off, the series goes out of state again on July 26th
at Evergreen Speedway in
Washington,
and immediately will head to Tooele, UT’s Miller
Motorsports Park the following weekend.
The
four races in five weeks grind is the toughest on the 2008
calendar.

Gallegos and RTD Motorsports, Inc. can watch Friday’s race
