Mike
Gallegos of
Wheat Ridge,
CO brought home the RTD Motorsports, Inc. Chevrolet to
an outstanding eighth place finish, Thursday night in the
“Jimmie Johnson Foundation
150”
at Phoenix International Raceway.
Gallegos started at the rear of the near 40 car field
after having to make an engine change. After moving into
the top-ten early in the race, the 25 year-old driver then
hung on with a broken shock mount to the finish.
The
finish marked Gallegos’ second career top-ten in the NACAR
Camping World Series West, and the first career top-ten
for the newly formed RTD Motorsports, Inc., owned by Rob
Dixon.
“I knew
this was going to be an awesome deal,” Gallegos said about
driving for RTD Motorsports, Inc. “To be a part of this is
just great. These guys work so hard it’s just
unbelievable.”
Gallegos, the 2008 Drive for Diversity participant, pulled
off the strong run in-front of several key members of the
Drive for Diversity managing group.
More
importantly, the race was during the NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series races at the one-mile oval, allowing the Hispanic
driver valuable exposure to the major players in NASCAR.
“During
the first run the car was hauling the mail,” Gallegos
said. “On the long runs, the car didn’t fall off like
everyone else’s.”
Thursday’s run also made up for the bad luck the team
faced in its debut two weeks earlier in Roseville, CA,
moving Gallegos and RTD Motorsports, Inc. into 12th
in the series points standings.
RTD
Motorsports, Inc. will now regroup and get ready to head
to Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, TX on Saturday, April 19.
The team will be competing in the NASCAR Camping World
Series West “Allstate Texas Thunder
150.”
